Do I Need To upgrade My Smoke Alarms?

The QLD Fire & Emergency Services Act was introduced into law in 2017. If you sell, rent, or make big changes to your home from 2022 onwards, you need to upgrade your smoke alarms. By 2027, all homes must have these newer smoke alarms and must comply with these updated safety guidelines.
  • Be photoelectric- AS3786-2014;
  • Be interconnected, so if one goes off they all go off;
  • Be not older than ten years;
  • Be installed at every level:
  • Be installed in each bedroom;
  • Be installed in hallways outside the bedrooms and if there is none, in the most likely path of escape.
